Audi's line of small sport sedans and Cabrio convertibles sees only relatively minor changes for 2005, and continues to offer a choice of front- or all-wheel drive (quattro). The A4 remains one of the better entry-level luxury sport models on the road that manages to strike a good balance between nimble handling and a fairly comfortable ride. Power comes from the choice of either a 170-horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, or a 3.0-liter V-6 that runs with a more robust 220 horses. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and a gearless CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) automatic is also available that delivers automatic transmission convenience with the performance and fuel economy of a manual gearbox. The CVT is only offered on front-drive versions, however a conventional five-speed automatic is included with all-wheel-drive models.

Within my A4 Cabriolet turning 4 years old, the entire car fell apart. Audis are apparently notorious for having engine coil failures. All 4 of mine had to be replace. The coolant system developed a leak, the roof broke and the transmission began slipping gears. I would not buy this car as a primary vehicle. I would, however, consider it one day as a secondary fun car because it is just that - a fun car to drive.
