Acura's mid-size Honda Accord-derived TL continues with only minor updates for 2006. It remains a capable sporty luxury sedan that's wrapped in handsome exterior styling with a roomy and thoughtfully designed interior. The TL's V-6 engine delivers a strong 270 horsepower, and can be mated to your choice of a five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission or a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox. Tweaks for 2006 help reduce torque steer, which can otherwise pull the vehicle slightly to one side under heavy acceleration. More tenacious around the curves than most luxury sedans, the car's handling benefits from a four-wheel independent suspension with anti-lock disc brakes (upgraded Brembo four-piston brakes come with the six-speed), traction and stability control systems, and 17-inch wheels and tires. The TL's only available audio system is a premium unit that comes with both surround-sound DVD Audio and XM satellite radio. Also included are front-side and side-curtain airbags and an array of amenities; a tire-pressure monitor is newly standard for 2006. A voice-activated navigation system and high-performance summer tires are its only available factory options. Newly added colors this year include Royal Blue Pearl, Alabaster Silver, and Deep Green Pearl.
