Redesigned only last year, Acura's popular mid-size TL continues with only minor alterations for 2005. The car's styling is handsome, but not overly conservative inside and out, with ample room for five passengers and their belongings. Able to take the corners at speed without an argument, the car's handling benefits from a four-wheel independent suspension and 17-inch wheels and tires.

The TL's standard V-6 continues to offer 270-horsepower and is mated to a five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission; a close-ratio six-speed manual shifter is also offered. The TL boasts the first automotive application of surround-sound DVD Audio, and its premium head unit also comes with XM satellite radio.

Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control systems, and front-side and front/rear side curtain airbags are likewise standard, with a navigation system its only factory option.

Once mainstream, now iconoclastic.
