How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

The 2013 Toyota Prius V will deliver great gas mileage for familes that do a lot of running around town, where its hybrid system offers the most benefit.

If your family spends a lot of car time at freeway speeds, though, the Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen can be ordered with the TDI diesel engine, which usually delivers higher real-world mileage than its rated TK mpg.

The Prius V is rated at 40 mpg highway.

The three best-selling compact crossovers include two that have been redesigned since 2012--the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape--and one that's aging and soon to be replaced, the Toyota RAV4.

The Ford Escape no longer offers a hybrid model; that role falls instead to the new Ford C-Max Hybrid.

And at an EPA rating of 47 mpg, the C-Max Hybrid beats the Prius V on mileage and is considerably more rewarding to drive--although slightly smaller inside, where it may count.

The 2013 Toyota Prius V is by far the roomiest Prius in the lineup, and its 42-mpg combined mileage is hard to beat. It's far from the fastest or most powerful family wagon, and it faces a new competitor, the Ford C-Max Hybrid--but it's still a capacious, comfortable, and highly fuel-efficient family wagon.

After eleven years, a change-up: the 2013 Ford Escape drops the faux-SUV pitch and reels off authentically athletic looks and performance.
