How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

The unchanged 2014 Scion xD faces competitors that continue to improve, leaving it lagging in a much improved segment.

The Ford Fiesta has been updated for 2014, with less fussy front styling, a new and economical three-cylinder engine, and the MyFordTouch option for the first time.

It keeps its quick, eager driving feel, though rear-seat space is tight.

The Chevy Sonic remains one of our favorite subcompacts, with style, performance (from the turbo four), features, and a quiet interior on its side.

Two Korean entries, the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio, offer more rear-seat room, and they remain strong value for entry-level buyers.

But one of the oldest cars in the segment is still the most capacious and flexible, with its "Magic Seat" rear seat: that's the Honda Fit, now in its last year before a complete redesign.

The 2014 Chevrolet Sonic is light-years ahead of its Aveo predecessor, which Chevy hopes you'll forget. It's stylish, comfortable, drives nicely, and has excellent safety ratings and infotainment features.

Affordable small cars don't need to be bland, whether in appearance or from behind the wheel. And the 2014 Ford Fiesta is proof of that.

The 2014 Hyundai Accent isn't exciting to drive, but it's one of the most comfortable, well-equipped cars its size--and still a great value.

The 2014 Kia Rio holds its own in a tough class of smart, efficient subcompacts -- and pulls ahead of the pack if value and style are top priorities.
