BMW's Z4 offers similarly strong performance with a more comfortable, passenger-friendly interior, plus a standard retractable hardtop, but its styling isn't as widely appealing.

The Nissan 370Z Roadster offers even more power than the Boxster Spyder along with its own take on great looks, but considerably more weight as well.

The Infiniti G37 Convertible is even better-looking than the 370Z, with the same power and handling and even more refined and luxurious interior.

Audi's TT roadster packs all-wheel drive and a potent V-6, but is nose-heavy and not as much a driver's car as the Boxster.
