TCC Rating
How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

The current Jeep Wrangler Unlimited has maintained this model's reputation, with very boxy, rugged styling combined with phenomenal off-road ability, and for 2012 it gets an all-new (and much more refined) powertrain: Chrysler's strong Pentastar V-6 and five-speed automatic.

Like the Xterra, Toyota's FJ Cruiser hasn't changed significantly in many years; it's not at all a family vehicle but appeals to either young people or purists who want off-road capability.

For families who also need off-road ability, the Toyota 4Runner Trail model might be a better alternative than the four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

Finally, look to the Land Rover LR4 if you have a higher budget and want a little more luxury with that true off-road ability.

The 2013 Jeep Wrangler is just as ready for adventuring as it looks--and surprisingly tolerable for the commute.

The 2013 Land Rover LR4 is a confident, capable off-roader with an upscale luxury interior, but it's all SUV--and it drives like it.

The 2013 Toyota 4Runner is just as brawny as it looks off-road, yet much better than you'd probably suspect on the highway.

TCC Rating
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is the real deal, pairing authentic trail toughness with modern conveniences; but families and commuters attracted mainly to its brawny, very stylish look should think twice.
