Our expert editors build comparisons like this one to make it easy for you to understand the small handful of cars you should compare to whatever car you are already looking at. You get general thoughts on each car you should consider plus an easy way to compare basic information for yourself.

The mid-size SUV market is so rich with choice that there are easily two dozen vehicles you could compare to the 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor.

The Chevrolet Equinox and the Suzuki XL7 share many components, and both are value priced.

Based on recent experiences with the Equinox, we'd only recommend it with the new 3.6-liter engine, and even then, we don't endorse it strongly.

However, the bigger XL7 represents a very good value in a package that's about the same size as the Outlander.

Quick Specs
Meta Rating
7.6
The 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor is a mid-pack performer in the crowded SUV/crossover class.
7.8
With mediocre handling and fuel economy, the 2009 Chevrolet Equinox isn’t that appealing, but it still offers superior cabin space.
8.4
As a smaller crossover, the Journey's a good alternative to the Saturn Vue and Subaru Forester, maybe even to a Dodge Grand Caravan--just don't pile on the expensive options.
8
The 2009 Honda Pilot looks more SUV-like in its second edition, but it has the room of a minivan, along with some notable styling miscues and expensive choices to make from the options list.
8
The attractive 2009 Saturn Outlook is a large, comfortable utility vehicle built with families in mind.
7.8
Most Americans prefer mushy white bread, and the 2008 Toyota Highlander is a larger, high-quality "loaf" that will satisfy most every consumer.
