How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

With the passing years, the Mercedes-Benz G Class sees its erstwhile competition come and go.

HUMMER is gone for good, though a used H1 is a 1990s throwback with the same visual impact as a Gelaendewagen.

Back for the 2013 model year are both of the Japanese utes that have a strong off-road heritage; the Land Cruiser and the LX 570 are essentially the same vehicle, with more standard features on the Lexus accounting for its slightly higher weight (of just under 6000 pounds) and its slightly lower gas mileage, still a notch above that of the G550.

For a more regal take on off-roading with more control dictated by electronic systems, there's the latest Range Rover, which exudes confidence off-road and composure on pavement.

It's a much more modern iteration of the classic SUV than the G Class and feels like it, with a lighter, smaller, more nimble feel--if those are words that can even be used to describe any sport-utility vehicle, they describe the latest Range Rover.

It has more power and more luxury features than ever, but the G Class' boxy charm and its hardcore off-road talent remain intact.

A luxurious SUV with limited appeal, the Lexus LX 570 isn't quite at home on the range, or on the interstate.

Still an off-road specialist by design, the 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser's grown ever so expensive; did it ever make sense?

It can't rightly be called a value, but the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover delivers a truckload of ability and exclusivity along with its admittedly huge Monroney.
