The powerful, plush Maserati GranTurismo has four seats and fantastic styling, a rare combination.

The Jaguar XK's only a two-seater, but its own sizzling style and heady performance make it the most logical competitor, though its cooler British touches aren't quite as warm to the touch as those in the Maserati.

It's much the same with the Porsche 911, which has a pair of rear seats that are practically useless; it has a real trunk, though, and its scalding performance comes in a seemingly limitless variety, from base to S models, Sport Chrono or no.

The Ferrari California's a stretch from the GranTurismo's pricetag, but the folding hardtop and the even more prestigious badge may be worth the stretch.

Finally, the Aston Vantage has much in common with the Jaguar, but an even more rarified clientele to match its sticker price.
