More so than with the Acura and Infiniti compact crossovers, the 2012 Land Rover LR2 lines up with its Continental compatriots.

There's the Audi Q5, a much sleeker-looking crossover with ample performance, but a high pricetag and a stiff ride, even with its adjustable suspension.

The latest BMW X3 is spacious and very swift, with a far nicer interior than the vehicle it replaced in 2011.

Volvo's XC60 and the Cadillac SRX are prettier crossovers with more safety features and less promise of off-road capability.

Of all the competing vehicles, the LR2 most resembles the Mercedes-Benz GLK, with its square-jawed styling and moderate off-road ability, though we prefer the GLK's superior straight-line performance and its steering.
