2014 Lamborghini Aventador vs. Its Competition

The Lamborghini Aventador sits in a unique position in the market at the moment; Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren offer even more expensive, more exclusive hypercars, but nothing that directly meets the Aventador's $400,000 challenge.

There are cars that are similar in performance, and though many offer their own high style, they don't aspire to the attention-getting extremes of the Aventador.

The Porsche 911 and Audi R8, for example, are both very fast sports cars with a dose of practicality and comfort the Lamborghini can't imagine, but neither is quite as quick as an Aventador, even in their most exotic forms.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT, in either gullwing coupe or sleek, low-slung roadster forms, has a future-meets-past quality to it the Aventador doesn't, but even with 583 horsepower, it's still short of the Aventador's raw force.

Then there's the Ferrari 458 Italia, which gives up little in style, though it's of a different school, and what it does lack in acceleration compared to the Aventador, it more than makes up in connectedness and communication with the driver.
