The 2013 Infiniti JX is expected to be one of the brand's highest volume vehicles, competing square with the Acura MDX--which is getting old, is far less stylish, and has worse fuel economy and tighter third-row access.

Beyond the MDX, though, competitors span the gamut.

The Audi Q7 is larger, heavier, and can be considerably more expensive--though it does offer an optional TDI diesel engine that delivers remarkable fuel efficiency.

The Buick Enclave, lightly restyled and refreshed for 2013, continues to gain customers of its own in the large crossover segment, though it's possible Infiniti buyers might not even consider a Buick.

That same issue may apply to the Lincoln MKT, the largest Lincoln crossover, but one which hasn't gotten much traction in the market.

Finally, the top end of the Toyota Highlander range--the seven-passenger, all-wheel-drive Highlander Hybrid--delivers much better fuel economy, but it's still a Toyota.
