Performance and a touch of utility pit the Infiniti FX against a slim set of luxury SUVs and crossovers.

Most of them hail from Europe.

The Audi Q5's a five-seater with a choice of diesel, hybrid, and supercharged six-cylinder engines, and Audi's minimalist styling is in full play.

The Porsche Cayenne's also a five-seater, with a price range that begins where the FX's ends--but for electrifying performance, there's nothing like its ludicrously powerful turbocharged models.

BMW's coupe-like X6 is nearly as fast in M form, but it's top-heavy in appearance, about as cargo-unfriendly as the FX, and very expensive.

The faint at heart could try on Lincoln's MKX for size; it's a pleasant-looking crossover with ample acceleration and a quiet, tasteful cabin.

But for the ultimate styling statement in mid-size crossovers, there's nothing quite equal to the Range Rover Evoque, a stiletto heel in a field of work books, one with turbocharged four-cylinder power and a light touch on pavement.
