2014 Hyundai Equus vs. Its Competition

2014 Hyundai Equus
Marty Padgett Marty Padgett Editorial Director

In a short time, Hyundai has done surprisingly much with its Equus, as well as the Genesis, which together comprise a luxury lineup that's differentiated in sales, service, look and feel, if not brand name.

In several decades of building the Lexus brand with standalone dealerships and products that really take on the German stalwarts, Lexus has an enviable reputation with its LS, which is, like the Equus, a little sterile compared to high-personality models like the Jaguar XJ ad Audi A8 L, and it doesn't come close to threatening the cachet of the Mercedes-Benz S Class, yet.

The big German sellers are in the same size class, but it's hard to think of someone stepping down from the BMW 7-Series or the Mercedes-Benz S-Class into an Equus if they're at all brand-snobbish--and the same holds true for the Audi A8, which may have some great tech features, such as its Google Earth maps, but its look isn't so distinct.
