How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

While the 2013 Honda Pilot looks tough and trail-ready from the outside, you can't read it too literally as that's not what it is on the inside.

It's really more of a direct rival to the Toyota Highlander; like the Pilot, the Highlander has a more traditional look, though it's less overt.

The Highlander has a nice, soft ride, but it's not nearly as responsive of a performer on the road; however it also has interior trims and materials that are a bit disappointing.

Several Ford models are rivals to the Pilot.

The Ford Flex is one of our editors' top picks; it has excellent interior comfort and distinctive, boxy styling that's more urban-hip than rugged.

The Flex also performs much better than the Pilot with its EcoBoost V-6 option.

The other Ford model that's an alternative to the Pilot is the Explorer, which has more of the traditional trail look though the Explorer has also gone modern and more comfort-oriented--with advanced MyFord Touch infotainment inside.

The Chevrolet Traverse is larger than the Flex, with a higher seating position closer to that of traditional SUVs, yet it handles and performs well and has a very well-appointed interior.

One other worthwhile alternative is the Kia Sorento, which like the Highlander offers a more fuel-efficient four-cylinder choice but feels somewhat smaller than the Pilot, probably due to its more curvaceous body.
