Our expert editors build comparisons like this one to make it easy for you to understand the small handful of cars you should compare to whatever car you are already looking at. You get general thoughts on each car you should consider plus an easy way to compare basic information for yourself.

If you want to go big, you can't get much bigger than the Suburban.

The GMC Yukon XL is virtually identical to the Suburban but can be a bit more pricey.

Meanwhile, the Cadillac Escalade ESV starts about where the top-of-the-line Chevy Suburban LTZ leaves off but carries the far superior Escalade cache.

The Ford Expedition EL is nearly the Suburban's equal on space, and the Ford's third-row seat has a superior, fold-flat design; but its powertrain remains a step behind the rest.

With a strong but thirsty V-8, the Nissan Armada is up to snuff, but offbeat styling and too much plasticky trim inside can be turnoffs.

The Toyota Sequoia is the most disappointing in this group; while it borrows the Tundra pickup's strong V-8 and macho looks, its interior appointments and handling are below the group's high water mark.
