How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

Our expert editors build comparisons like this one to make it easy for you to understand the small handful of cars you should compare to whatever car you are already looking at. You get general thoughts on each car you should consider plus an easy way to compare basic information for yourself.

The Avalanche is almost a unique vehicle in the car world--if it weren't for the conceptually similar Cadillac Escalade EXT, it would be alone in offering its nifty midgate.

If you're shopping the Avalanche and can't swing the Caddy, take a look at the Honda Ridgeline, which doesn't let the cockpit and pickup bed mingle, but has some of the storage flexibility of the Chevy.

If that's not an option, the crew-cab versions of the best-selling pickups will do in a pinch--the GMC Sierra, Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 all have something to recommend them, even though none have the midgate.

The showpiece of the 2012 Chevy Avalanche is the clever midgate, but it's also easy to drive, and has lots of useful storage hidden inside and out.

Efficient and burly, the 2012 Ford F-150 shares the lead in full-size trucks thanks to extreme capability and extreme high-tech features.

TCC Rating
The 2012 GMC Sierra has one of the greenest pickup trucks in its lineup, but some of its early spec-sheet triumphs have been bested by the latest F-150 and Ram.

The 2012 Honda Ridgeline won't satisfy those who need a real full-size truck, but for those who need hauling on occasion, it offers an interesting alternative.

The 2012 Ram 1500 is big and burly yet very detail-oriented; and for those who want a good ride and refined interior, it's one of the best bets.
