2015 BMW M4 vs. Its Competition

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is a strong alternative to the BMW M4, as toe-to-toe, we preferred the Mercedes over the previous-generation M3 coupe in many respects.

Whether the next generation of the AMG C-Class will be able to bring the same level of fight to the new M4 remains to be seen.

Audi's RS5 is another possible pick in the high-performance sport-luxury coupe segment, bringing with it quattro all-wheel drive and the breathtakingly gorgeous lines shared by all A5-based models.

On the track, or otherwise at the limit, the RS5 may lack some of the bite of the alternatives, but it's by no means a slouch.

The Cadillac CTS-V coupe is in its final run; it's a reasonable alternative to the M4 if you can find one, but it's going away, to be replaced by the ATS-V.

Finally, Porsche's Cayman and Boxster are some of the most brilliant-handling machines in this set, especially in S trim.

They're our pick in this set, and the true sports cars among these entries, too.

Quick Specs
9.0
The 2015 BMW M4 loses a little bit of weight and its normally aspirated V-8, leaving a potent twin-turbo six and nearly unflappable handling in their place.
8.6
The Audi A5 coupe and convertible are sleek and supple, but make the most sense in their S and RS guises.
8.6
Forget this model's recent past; the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class takes a half-step up in size and a full step ahead of its peer set in sophistication -- and it's now one very charming luxury car.
9.0
The 2015 Porsche Boxster is a relative performance bargain, combining everyday usability with a balanced chassis and sweet engines.
9.0
The 2015 Porsche Cayman remains a focused 911 alternative, at an easier-to-swallow price.
