Our expert editors build comparisons like this one to make it easy for you to understand the small handful of cars you should compare to whatever car you are already looking at. You get general thoughts on each car you should consider plus an easy way to compare basic information for yourself.

Due to its segment-straddling nature, the Audi TT competes with a range of compact luxury coupes and roadsters as well as true sports cars.

The Mercedes-Benz SLK, for example, is somewhat heavier and more sedate, but offers a folding hardtop, an AMG performance option, and a different sense of style.

The all-new 2013 Porsche Boxster matches the Audi's luxury (or beats it), with even nimbler handling and, except for the TT RS, more power, though it's far more expensive.

Nissan's 370Z is much more affordable, on the other hand, with plenty of power, handling, and style, but at the cost of interior quality, noise, and refinement.

The BMW Z4 spans a similar range to the Audi TT, with a new 2.0-liter turbo engine and a potent 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder both available, but the Z4's overall feel is more grand tourer than nimble sports car.

9.2
The 2013 Porsche Boxster is one of the most fun, stylish, and luxurious roadsters available.
7.8
The 2012 BMW Z4 is a great option for the driver seeking a balance of fun and comfort, making it a great light tourer, but it can quickly become expensive with added options.
8.4
It may be the most pragmatic roadster of its kind, but the SLK 350 dares you to doubt its partying skills.

Performance per dollar, the 2012 Nissan 370Z is a bargain, and it's quick enough in absolute terms to reach toward the domain of much more expensive sports cars.
