Our expert editors build comparisons like this one to make it easy for you to understand the small handful of cars you should compare to whatever car you are already looking at. You get general thoughts on each car you should consider plus an easy way to compare basic information for yourself.

If you don't want the conservative look and feel of traditional sport-luxury sedans, but neither wagons nor crossovers are quite hitting the right balance either, the Audi A7 is a good pick--along with, potentially, the Jaguar XF, BMW 5-Series GranTurismo, and Mercedes-Benz CLS.

Each of these are swoopy models with arching rooflines, much like the Audi A7, but none of them are so pure in design as the A7.

The XF is a beautifully wrought piece of design, with a very limited back seat but brilliant supercharged performance and now, all-wheel drive.

The GranTurismo is a high-rider, more like a utility vehicle (with tougher underpinnings, admittedly)--and some may find it easier to get into and out of.

The GranTurismo has an especially roomy back seat.

The curvy CLS is less conservative than other Mercedes-Benz models, but you might be surprised to find that it has an ordinary trunk--and a relatively small one at that.

The A7 also has a somewhat smaller back seat than the Porsche Panamera--and Porsche's four-door fastback has more controversial looks; furthermore the A7 costs about $15k less than the controversial Porsche.
