How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

Our expert editors build comparisons like this one to make it easy for you to understand the small handful of cars you should compare to whatever car you are already looking at. You get general thoughts on each car you should consider plus an easy way to compare basic information for yourself.

Right now, the set of small, pricey sedans is limited to a handful of cars.

The Buick Verano has the advantage of seniority, and it's a well-executed compact with a plush, quiet cabin and excellent safety scores, though it lacks a more-than-premium image.

The Acura ILX is a disappointment: the interior's not even quite as nice as the quick-update Honda Civic and performance is lackluster.

It's no Integra.

The A3's real intended target is the Mercedes CLA, a beautiful four-door with a very firm ride, a zesty powertrain, and a 355-hp AMG edition already in the pipeline.

Others might overlook one other key alternative to the A3: the Volvo S60, which is nearly seven inches longer than the A3 but a few inches short of the A4.

The S60 comes with a more fuel-efficient turbo four and an eight-speed automatic (and 37-mpg highway rating) at the base level—and it feels like a much more refined car for just a little more money.
