How does the
TCC Rating work?
The TCC Rating is a clear numeric rating value based on a 10-point scale that reflects the overall opinion of our automotive experts on any vehicle and rolls up ratings we give each vehicle across sub-categories you care about like performance, safety, styling and more.

Our rating also has simple color-coded “Stop” (red), “Caution” (orange),
or “Go” (green) messages along with the numerical score so you can easily understand where we stand at a glance.

Our automotive experts then also collect and show you what other websites say about these different aspects of any vehicle. We do this leg work for you to simplify your research process.

Our expert editors build comparisons like this one to make it easy for you to understand the small handful of cars you should compare to whatever car you are already looking at. You get general thoughts on each car you should consider plus an easy way to compare basic information for yourself.

The 2011 Audi A4 remains a front- or all-wheel-drive sedan just like the TL, but Audi goes to great lengths to move its mass rearward and successfully crafts it into a sportier, more engaging drive.

The Cadillac CTS presents as strong a styling statement as the TL, yet does so in a more appealing way; its well-sorted, rear-wheel-drive chassis, great powertrains, and sumptuous interior complete the CTS's compelling package.

Looking somewhat outside the traditional box and starting in the low $30,000 range, yet with an interior that's sized within inches of a Mercedes S550, the rear-wheel-drive Hyundai Genesis sedan is the clear value leader here, but soft handling means it won't win the driver's vote.

Another slightly off-the-radar pick might be the Nissan Maxima; Nissan calls the latest Maxima a four-door sports car, but it’s really more like the TL, with a V-6, front-wheel drive, and a nice ride and beautiful interior above all else.

VW’s CC sedan is also an attractive pick for style mavens; its base four-cylinder engine gets great mileage, too, but it’s not at all a sport sedan.

Sportier picks in this size range might also include the Lexus GS, and the newly redesigned Infiniti M37, which comes in an all-wheel-drive M37x variant.
