Bottomline The 2008 Nissan Maxima is a bit more aesthetically appealing than a top-of-the-line Altima or Accord, but it doesn’t perform any better. The 2009 Volvo S60 isn’t a sport sedan, but it is a comfortable, safe, all-weather mid-size car with an eager powertrain.

  • Very quiet, comfortable cabin

Dislikes:

  • Outside styling doesn’t stand out from the Altima
  • V-6 doesn’t feel sporty with CVT automatic
  • No standard stability control in a top-of-the-line model

  • Quiet interior
  • Firm but smooth ride
  • Great front seats

Dislikes:

  • Dated design inside and out
  • Narrow trunk opening
  • Rear headroom is limited
  • Much higher price for ‘09
