Bottom Line The 2008 Nissan Altima is a little sportier, though not less sensible. The 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid melds the automaker's proven, hybrid system into America's bread-and-butter sedan. What's not to like?

  • Base four-cylinder model is peppier than rivals
  • Very fuel-efficient with four-cylinder and CVT automatic
  • Especially torquey V-6 can keep up with some sports-cars
  • Crisp, responsive handling

Dislikes:

  • Back-seat not especially roomy
  • No way to avoid gimmicky keyless ignition system
  • Four-cylinder models don’t include stability control

Likes:

  • Adequate acceleration and great fuel economy
  • Smooth, well-controlled ride
  • Very quiet cabin

Dislikes:

  • Conservative styling, and little to differentiate the Hybrid
  • Doesn't handle as well as other Camrys
  • Difficult to maintain steady speed without cruise
