Bottom Line The 2012 Mercedes-Benz E Class models have sharper driving appeal than in the past, while also returning to the classy interior appointments and vault-like construction that have made them longtime luxury benchmarks.   • Four body styles--including a wagon
  • Rich interior trims
  • Spacious interior
  • Available all-wheel drive (even on coupe)
  • Fuel-efficient BlueTec diesel

Dislikes:

  • Somewhat busy styling
  • Learning curve to electronics
  • Clutter of buttons
  • Base vinyl upholstery

Likes:

  • The small miracle of supercharging
  • Great four-cylinder fuel economy
  • Striking interior styling and materials
  • We're goggle-eyed over Google Earth mapping
  • In-car wireless Internet means quiet passengers

Dislikes:

  • Four-cylinders are CVT-only
  • Nowhere near as appealing as the A7
  • Steering better, still not transparent
  • Fifth seat isn't, really
  • Are you ready for a $70,000 A6?
