Bottomline The 2008 Honda Fit is one of the smallest cars on the road, but it’s fun to drive, huge inside, and a tremendous value. The 2008 Nissan Versa isn’t particularly sporty, fashionable, or innovative, but it offers an astonishing amount of space, comfort, and features for the money. The 2009 Pontiac G3 is an example of the model proliferation that hurt GM for decades. It's a decent but not terrific subcompact.

  • The best seat/cargo configuration of any small car

Dislikes:

  • Awkward-looking design from some angles
  • Narrow cabin doesn’t allow much elbow room
  • Harsh ride quality

Likes:

  • Very spacious, quiet interior
  • Supple ride for a small car
  • Simple but attractive instrument panel
  • Good crash-test results
  • Available Bluetooth interface

Dislikes:

  • Lacks the agile feel of other small cars its size
  • Fuel economy is only passable
  • Engine gets very noisy when accelerating

Likes:

  • Practical hatchback design
  • Roomy interior for class
  • Solid build quality
  • Peppy performance with manual transmission
  • Will be a rare car due to single year of production

Dislikes:

  • Radio doesn't have tuning knob
  • Silly vent in front fender
  • Ride at interstate speeds feels nervous
