Bottomline Don't look to the 2008 Ford Taurus X for driving excitement, but otherwise, it's darn near the most perfect family wagon there is. The 2008 GMC Acadia stands out as being a stylish and capable full-size crossover that should be considered by those shopping for traditional SUVs and minivans. The 2009 Honda Pilot looks more SUV-like in its second edition, but it has the room of a minivan, along with some notable styling miscues and expensive choices to make from the options list.

  • Comfy seating throughout
  • Numerous convenience features

  • Doesn’t feel even vaguely sporty

  • Easier to live with than full-size SUV
  • Luxurious interior
  • Lots of standard features
  • Clever options (heated windshield washers!)

  • Transmission “hunts”
  • Disappointing fuel mileage
  • Weight—4,900 pounds
  • 19-inch wheels

  • Expanded interior package
  • Clever and numerous interior bins
  • Sweet powertrain
  • Adult-sized third-row seat

Dislikes:

  • That big, big grille
  • Thick styling
  • Hard plastics inside
  • Bundling of options
