Bottomline As the perennial best-selling truck-based SUV, the Ford Explorer is still the one to beat. The 2008 Mercury Mountaineer is what an Explorer looks like in lipstick and heels. The 2008 Saab 9-7X carves a respectable SUV out of GM’s older running gear, but fuel economy and crash scores are decidedly unlike other Saabs.
