Bottomline If you plan to tow, a 2008 Dodge Durango with a V-8 will work nearly as well as a Tahoe or Expedition, at a lower price. As the perennial best-selling truck-based SUV, the Ford Explorer is still the one to beat.

  • Interior styling
  • Stable handling
  • Power-folding third-row seat

Dislikes:

  • Ride isn't as smooth as car-based crossovers
  • V-6 engine noise
