Bottomline The new available V-8 engine is a long time coming and helps position the Colorado as a worthy rival to the most capable compacts and an alternative to full-size trucks. The 2008 Mazda B-Series is an inexpensive, fuel-saving alternative to big pickups, but it feels every bit of its advanced age.

  • The longer six-foot might still be too short

  • Rough-running four- and five-cylinders
  • Five-cylinder gets V-8 gas mileage
