Bottomline If most of your driving is around town with little interstate travel, the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo and Aveo5 are worth a look, especially if you want a bow tie out front. The 2008 Honda Fit is one of the smallest cars on the road, but it’s fun to drive, huge inside, and a tremendous value. The 2008 Toyota Yaris is one of the cheapest, and cheapest to run, of all new vehicles.

  • Great visibility
  • Quick steering and excellent maneuverability
  • Substantial feel
  • Secure roadholding
  • Awesome build quality
  • The best seat/cargo configuration of any small car

Dislikes:

  • Awkward-looking design from some angles
  • Narrow cabin doesn’t allow much elbow room
  • Harsh ride quality

  • Very cheap price
  • Good ride
  • Excellent fuel economy

Dislikes:

  • Instrument panel design seems gimmicky
  • Doesn’t handle very well
  • Front seats are small
  • Safety features are optional
