Bottomline Considering the weight of the Escalade’s image and its segment-leading performance, the 2009 Cadillac Escalade is hard to beat. The 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a superior sport-ute with lots of room and power.

  • Well-tailored sheetmetal
  • Plenty of interior room, even in back
  • Sophisticated interior
  • Strong off-road capability

Dislikes:

  • Gas engines have poor fuel economy
