Bottomline The 2009 Audi A3 is more than a spruced-up VW hatchback, thanks to the fabulous interior, S-tronic transmission, and V-6 bark. The Caliber has a very practical layout and quite a few innovative features to get excited about, but it's lacking in driving enjoyment or refinement--even compared to its low-priced competition. The 2008 MINI Cooper S Clubman--extroverted styling in a slightly bigger package with more power makes for a fun car that is hard not to look at with a broad smile.
