Bottomline The 2008 Acura TSX is far from the freshest sport sedan design, but it remains one of the most sensible and fun-to-drive. The 2009 Audi A4 has grown into a more useful luxury sedan, though it goes overboard with optional, programmable handling. The 2008 Nissan Maxima is a bit more aesthetically appealing than a top-of-the-line Altima or Accord, but it doesn’t perform any better.

  • Conservative but sharp-looking, timeless design

  • Back-seat is tight for adults
  • Road noise is an issue on coarse surfaces
  • Hesitant automatic transmission

  • Fresh, updated shape
  • Available quattro all-wheel drive
  • Wagon utility
  • Increased backseat room

  • Drive Select’s steering feel choices
  • No S-tronic transmission
  • Backseat is low, with a short bottom cushion
  • Cockpit styling

  • Supportive front seats
  • Steers and handles responsively
  • Very quiet, comfortable cabin

Dislikes:

  • Outside styling doesn’t stand out from the Altima
  • V-6 doesn’t feel sporty with CVT automatic
  • No standard stability control in a top-of-the-line model
