TheCarConnection.com's spies caught a convoy of 2010
Buick LaCrosse prototypes running on public roads--this time with drastically reduced camouflage.
Prior
LaCrosse test vehicles had always been clad under oppressive covers, but now we can see all but the finest details on Buick's new sedan. The prototypes captured here definitely show a resemblance Buick's Invicta
concept car shown in China earlier this year.
Two distinct prototypes were identified in the group: one with no visible exhaust tips and a clean rear bumper, the other with sporty dual exhaust tips cut into the bumper and larger, more aggressive wheels.
We also managed a revealing interior shot, showing the craftsmanship that will be applied to the LaCrosse's passenger compartment. It looks as if
Buick stylists have learned a lesson, or two, from the
Cadillac CTS' interior design.
The test group had an interesting mix of comparison vehicles along for the ride, covering a wide range of market segments. Running alongside the
LaCrosse prototypes were a
Mercedes E-Class, a
Lincoln MKS, and a
Volkswagen Passat.

Buick LaCrosse takes its bow at the

With a new
Land Rover Range Rover still some years away, the current British uber-SUV will get a mild face-lift to help it age gracefully.
The face-lift shown here is very minor. The Range Rover's rear end wears new LED lights; the front end gets more changes, such as a new bumper, a new grille, and new headlamps with LED daytime driving lights.
There may also be new engines under the hood when the face-lifted version hits the market in 2010. A 5.0-liter V-8 has been rumored for a long time, as has a new 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine to replace the old 2.7-liter diesel.

The next-generation Mustang prototypes have begun running around without the heavy vinyl camouflage seen on prior versions.
The latest
2010 Ford Mustang prototypes are disguised only with a graphic tape, providing a very clean view of Ford's revamped pony car. In this case, TheCarConnection.com's spies caught a prototype for the next Shelby GT500
convertible in this more revealing state of undress, giving us our best look yet at the one of the range-topping models in Ford's future Mustang lineup.
In addition to the new grilles and headlight designs, we can clearly see a series of new hood ducts toward the front-third of the hood.
UPDATE: These new interior pictures have surfaced, showing a Mustang interior that keeps a familiar look but has a more tightly integrated, higher-quality appearance.
More details are coming at this fall's
Los Angeles auto show. Stay tuned.--

WorldCarFans reports that a tourist got a pretty clean look at the new 2010 Mazda 3, despite some tricky car-to-car photography at 70 mph.
Originally due for a release towards the end of '09, it now appears on target for a showroom release in the summer of '09 as an...an...a '10 model? Or should we say "oh-ten" model? Oh, bother, the hassles of new millennium nomenclature. Somebody consult m-w.com, please.
The new
Mazda will continue to ride on Ford's global C1 platform. You know, the one that gives Europe a brilliant
Focus while leaving us put-putting around in our little chrome-gilled pretender here in the states. Further, WorldCarFans states that the new 3 will be slightly longer and wider, as well as sporting a bump in engine displacement and mpg. They also state it will come with six speeds in its manual transmission. Watch for the official release at the L.A.
Auto Show this November.
We hope to see the Mazdaspeed 3 continued and perhaps finally fitted with an optional AWD system, giving it true claim as a
WRX and
Evo competitor. Said drive system might also allow full boost in first and second gears, currently limited to protect those lonely front axles and CV joints from being pureed by the stout DISI turbo four (Direct Injected Spark Ignition).--

These are the best and most revealing spy photos of the new smaller SUV from
Saab, the 9-4 X.
The 2010 9-4 X will symbolize “the new Saab” and has been developed from the start to fit into the brand's portfolio--unlike recent offerings the 9-7X and 9-2X. The design is the product of
Saab stylists working in Rüsselsheim, Germany, together with a smaller design group in Trollhättan. The new 9-4X will be a sporty-looking SUV with a lot of Aero X styling in the front; low side windows and short overhangs will emphasize its crossover credentials.
The 9-4X will share some pieces, though, with the 2010
Cadillac SRX. We expect the engine lineup to include gas and diesels. Some dealers in the U.S. already have seen the finished car and are reported to be very excited about the new
Saab.
The 2010
Saab 9-4X could make its world debut at the
Detroit auto show in January, but the Geneva show in March may be more likely.
