All is nicht so gut at BMW this afternoon, where some 200,000 vehicles are being recalled for airbags that might not deploy in an accident. The Associated Press reports the recall affects the 2004-2006 BMW X3 (the current model's shown here), as well as the same years of the 5 Series and the 2006 BMW 3 Series . In those vehicles, the front passenger airbag may not go off as planned, if the...

BMW's next-generation 3-Series is little different on the outside, but there's change under the hood--and change in the iDrive system that's found in some versions. Late last week, BMW released these first shots of the new 3-Series , which gets the mildest of exterior makeovers. New versions of the 3-Series also get a spiffier interior; these shots show more wood interior trim, new steering-wheel...

BMW is in the midst of its final testing for the U.S.-spec 335d--the first diesel-powered Bimmer to be sold in North America. The introduction of the 335d will coincide with the launch of face-lifted sheetmetal destined for the entire 3-Series lineup. Due to emission restrictions, the U.S. version of the 335d will reportedly be down on power from its European cousin (265 horsepower and 425...

Today's BMW M3 does some wonderful things with a V-8 engine -- but enthusiasts, owners, and now apparently, even management think that the M cars need to get back to their small-engine roots. Motor Authority reports that the German automaker's CEO Norbert Reithofer has some interesting plans ahead for all of BMW , not just the M cars. For the mainstream Bimmer lineup, Reithofer wants to eliminate...

BMW’s next-generation Z4 sports car has been photographed quite often in various stages of its development. These latest shots show a test car caught in the streets of Munich. The Z4 will replace the current model that has been on the market since 2003, and it will be about the same size. The most significant feature on the new car is that BMW will exchange the canvas top for a retractable steel...

Photos of Honda's new Accord and Accord Tourer (wagon) were first released several weeks ago, but the automaker showed the vehicle in the flesh for the first time on its Geneva stand. Again, the model is a different car completely than what is sold in the U.S. under the same name but closely related to the U.S.-market Acura TSX . The new Accord is of much importance since, in Europe, its...

It's always nice to be surprised, but BMW didn't announce anything truly new at their Detroit event. If you're a TCC regular (and you probably are because you're reading this), we've let you know that BMW would show their X5-related X6 crossover in the Motor City. BMW claims to have invented a new vehicle segment with the X6. They call it a "Coupe Sport Activity Vehicle." Because of my background...
