Jim Posted: 6/15/2013 4:34pm PDT The thing about Quattro versus the oft mentioned AWD is that it was borne out of Audi's rallying experience and as such it's benefits are not intended to compete with the likes of Jeeps which are specifically intended for serious off road use but handle like poop. One might take note of the fact that many performance cars today are switching to some form of AWD. The Mercedes AMG cars will be AWD in the future. Jaguar is offering it on their big sedan now. Porsche has had AWD drive on its Turbo and 4S cars for many years. Quattro may not be best for Autocross but it benefits everyday handling in the wet and dry and when traveling down unimproved roads, too. Other examples include the Subaru WRX Sti and the Mitsubishi Evo.
