It's as though Kia assumes that if a customer orders a manual, they're far too cheap to deserve a higher trim level. Why would I want to spend $1,000 more to buy a car with a fun and performance robbing slushbox? Besides, I could use that money to buy leather upholstery, or a sound system upgrade. I own a 2010 Forte EX sedan with a 5-speed manual, which I had intended to upgrade with a Forte EX 5-door 6-speed, but it's now unavailable with a stick. It's fine to crank out units sold for the "bean counters" but if Kia or any other manufacture for that matter is going to turn off repeat customers by re-defining what is and what is not covered under warranty then they have already lost the battle.
