Lunch With The President?? I'm never that hungry! I think President Obama came to the Whitehouse with his own agenda and it appears that his agenda is not in the best interests of us American people. Examples of his deviousness in serving OUR country are his secrecy and Whitehouse intrigue while plotting Obamacare. And the latest example of the president's disdain for OUR American way, and OUR intrests was his sidestepping of congress (We The People) to give ILLEGAL Aliens what is rightfully NOT theirs. We have always heard that we should Respect The Office, if not the man. But How Can We Respect the office if the office has NO respect for us? I say NO RESPECT unless/until that office earns it. Until then, I'll buy my own lunch!

First of all, these guys have schedules that are set up MONTHS in advance. They TRIED to reschedule but couldn't. Kurt was able to change his but the others weren't able to. For example, Biffle has an event with his sponsor that was set up 9 months ago that they couldn't easily change. They have people coming in from out of the country as well as around the country. And rearranging was not feasible. The guys only received 2 weeks notice.

Second of all, they have ALL been to the White House before & several of them have met Obama previously.

It's not political, it's not racism, they TRIED they just couldn't work things out. This time of the year is VERY busy for the guys as they close out the year/get things going for next year.

  • slongs avatar slongs Posted: 9/4/2011 1:07pm PDT

FWIW, I'm black & I wouldn't cross the street to meet Obama. Can't stand him.

Heck one of the drivers, Jimmie Johnson, who is going was receiving heat FOR going. He tweeted a response that many originally took at him dissing those who weren't going. But he clarified that what he tweeted was in response to those giving him hear FOR going.

The original articles were written BEFORE anyone spoke to the drivers. They spoke to the drivers the next day & we now know why they can't go. Now we're dealing with idiots like you who picked up on it and are now writing about it when you don't know what the heck you're talking about!

And as Kevin said, it's really none of anyone's business WHY they can't go. They can't go PERIOD!

  • fb_1491948054 avatar Kurt Posted: 9/4/2011 2:07pm PDT

@slongs, I'm the idiot who wrote the article. As a writer, there's a double edge sword: if you post breaking news that later turns out to be less than entirely correct, you're an idiot. If you don't post news that someone else does, you're a loser. As a writer, it's a no-win proposition, so I guess I'm lucky to have a thick skin.

I never intimated the decision was racially biased, as I never believed that to be the case. As for your feelings on our current president, I'm glad to see we can agree on something.

I think the perceptions is the south is racist and does not like blacks. The USA is still very racist. I think the people who hate Obama and Michelle do so because they are black. The Fox news empty talking points don't help either. Most people can't even tell you what Obama actually did to make them a hater.

  • scjeff avatar scjeff Posted: 1/24/2012 8:54am PST

I'll be brief but I think you can follow. I am a southerner and I am not a racist. I disagree with the philosophy of Obama that government oversight and regulation by the government is needed in all aspects of the lives of the citizens of the United States. My philosophy is that we need to eliminate the thousands of new pages of regulation that Obama has ushered in since taking office, end the health care initiative, end all government bailouts, and shrink the size of government to a size that eliminates the need for deficit spending.

  • bigcheeze44 avatar bigcheeze44 Posted: 2/3/2012 9:16am PST

Correct! And after forty years as a business owner and exec I can tell you that business without oversight will run amok every time. Deregulation is what put us in the financial mess we're in now. Deregulation has ruined the radio broadcasting industry, poisoned our food, killed American manufacturing (it's all done in China now, in case you didn't know) and transferred the country's wealth from 95% of the people to 2% of the people (talk about redistribution). And the people who buy into today's "conservative" rhetoric are like sheep being led to a slaughter. Read the history of Adolph Hitler's rise to power to see the parallels.

I hope it is political. Respect is a two way street. How can our President be so disrespectful to the American People and expect us to bow down to him as he does to the "Leaders" of other countries? He has done nothing except play politics since he has taken office.

Strring up class warefare is the ultimate disrespect to a people who have equal opportunity to succeed, if you are willing to devote the time effort and have any skillset.

  • bigcheeze44 avatar bigcheeze44 Posted: 2/3/2012 9:31am PST

Disrespectful to the American people, eh? Hummm... let's see:
    1. Killing Osama Bin Laden...
    2. Ending the war in Iraq and bringing home hundreds of thousands of troops to their families...
    3. Wiping out 85%-95% of Al Quida's leadership around the world...
    4. Making it possible for people with preexisting conditions to even get some healthcare coverage...WITHOUT a government alternative...
    5. Saving the auto industry and over 3-million jobs in over 500 associated businesses (all repaid or about to be)...
    6. Expecting someone who earns $50,000 a DAY to pay a bit more in taxes than someone earning $50,000 a YEAR...
Between 1945 and 1975 the US became the most prosperous and mighty nation on earth. The tax rate for the rich was 93%. Hummmm...

    1. Obama did not kill Osama. The Seals did. All Obama had to do was sweat for 24 hours about how he could take credit for it.
    2. If we would have fought the war in Iraq (and Afganistan) the way we used to fight wars, it would have been over in 2 years and the troops would have been home.
    3. Again the military.
    4. People with pre-existing condidions didn't always have them, should have kept the insurance they had before.
    5. If you believe it's been paid back, I can understand why you're an Obamabot.
    6. Do the math. I think someone making $50K a day IS paying more than someone making 50K a year. If fair ALL pay the same rate.
Between '45 and '75 the US was not trying to become one of those countries, as we are now under Obama's wat

A "conflicting schedule" is a polite way of declining to be seen with the worst president the U.S. has ever had. Published photographs would make it seems as though they support him, so the drivers should not be blamed in any way.

Incidentally, and I quote: "Sitting the event out will be Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart, since all six have “scheduling conflicts” with the ceremony." Six? Ah, the Invisible Man also declined the invitation.

NASCAR has evolved into a stupid sport with a bunch of idiots driving around in circles. The cars are almost identical. The drivers are mostly decendants of previous drivers. There is some skill involved, however, it is not the same as most sports. The races are won in the pits by the team with the best financial backing. The fans are mostly a bunch of under educated rednecks. The sport is not very complicated so they can easially follow along. A lot like the republican party in general. Kinda dumb and easy to manupilate. They don't have a lot of black fans and they certainly are not going to support a black president. I have been a hot rod enthusiest for my whole life. Uneducated? Ryan Newman is a mechanical engineer,Carl Edwards is a pilot, every driver in NASCAR even Darrick Cope make more money than you will ever see.How does financial backing help out in the pits?NASCAR tracks fill more seats each weekend than any NFL,MLB,NBA event. These cars are built from steel tubing and sheet metal that takes a lot of engineering. One half pound of air pressure in the tires can be the difference between winning a race and being in the wall.NASCAR drivers are not just good old boys any longer, they are from all over the country, and have had to pay their dues in small town race tracks all over the country. They didn't just wake up 1 morning and get a call for Mike Helton and asked to drive a $150,000.00 car at 200mph.

Of course they have a choice, and that is what keeps America free, but they will regret not taking this opportunity later on in life.
