    $7k to upgrade an engine?! It's not like the base model comes without an engine.

    $26,995 for the base model is a fantastic price. Here in Australia we pay $45,000 for the Laredo V6, but it includes more standard features like xenon headlights and 18" wheels (and of course 4WD).

    Kurt, that's $45,000 AUD, which equals $46,678 USD.

    @David - thanks! That's quite a bit of money, even for a loaded Grand Cherokee Laredo. I think we Americans tend to forget how good we have it in terms of buying cars, so it's good to get a reminder from time to time.

    I spent a few weeks in the new Jeep Grand Cherokee recently (rental car while my own vehicle was being repaired due to hail damage). I have to say that it is an exceptional vehicle. Smooth, robust powertrain. Confident handling. Luxurious feel to the interior. I hated to part ways with it when my car was repaired. Anybody looking in this segment should seriously consider the Jeep.
