Often times I've found an "embedded" upsell. This occurs when you bring a car in for a scheduled maintenance and the dealer's list of work includes more than the manufacturer's recommendations. Of course you are never told that some of the work items go above and beyond what is in the owner' manual. My policy is to always obtain a list from the dealer of the service items, compare it to the manufacturer's recommendations and then decline any of the dealer's added items.

I feel sorry for the SAPS who buy vehicles like EV\Hybrids that only the dealer will service.
My heart goes out to you BUT you should have thought this process through before you signed on the dotted line. All of a sudden those dollars/MPG's you thought you were saving at the gas pump were just all smoke and mirrors. Say kind of like the monies you lost in your 401k/IRA when the Stock Market crashed in '08.
