There is such a misperception that you get better customer service at an independant. You may know them and they are friendly to you, but you don't know their quality of repair is better. Dealers overhead is greater and they use genuine parts-many independents use cheaper parts, which is really what this bill is all about. Cars are no doubt more complicated today and require specialized training. Small guys can get the same training and software that dealers do, but they resent having to pay-dealers must PAY for training and tools, its not free! Some dealers like the large sale mills do not have good service departments-like anything else, shop a dealer with a good service rating.Dealers can often be competitive-remember, you get what you pay for. Cheap aftermarket parts do not last as long.

I have dealt with both dealer and independent repair shops, and I have to say that I enjoy the right to go to an independent company when given the change. I have had better customer service, better prices, and better quality of repairs as opposed to when I have gone to dealer shops. Maybe if the dealers came down in price and increase service they would not to resort to cheap legislation to get customers back.
