    @Carl: You're kidding about the bankruptcy, right? If foreign interests had bought GM & Chrysler, the public would've been far more unhappy. I can hear them now: "The feds are putting our biggest homegrown corporations into the hands of foreigners!" There's no winning, of course, in these VERY divided times, but politically and financially, the administration made the better choice in this case.

    It is still a bad deal. The g'ment and the UAW owns GM and Xler. It would have been more honest of obama to let the bankruptcy courts function. The auto workers and most salaried folks would have been happier with foreign takeover buyers. VOLVO should have bought Chev, Buick and Cadillac.

    agree it's a bit disingenuous, but on a relative scale versus other claims in nationally televised commercials by both automakers and other advertisers, not too bad. at this point, gm at least deserves some credit for not acting as if the taxpayers didn't do anything to help. company is at least acknowledging a bailout occurred and they take trying to repay things as a serious obligation.
