    I love Chrysler but WTF does this have to do with selling cars? There dealers must be cringing when they see this.

    ...leaving the door open for further "requests" for additional US tax dollars to keep Chrysler afloat. Pandering to the Democratic base? Maybe. Keeping Chrysler in the news? Definitely. Avoiding the fact that new cars are a year away? Absolutely.

    It's a branding piece -- specifically, a re-branding piece. As such, its goal is to create new emotional associations between the brand and consumers. And in that sense, it may be mildly successful. (Underline "may".) Like I said, I think the theme is a little left-field, but it's really no more bizarre than most other re-branding campaigns I've seen.
    As for Chrysler dealers, I think they're probably already rocking in corners thanks to dismal sales, iffy production quality, and drastic changes ahead, courtesy of Mr. Marchionne.
