My local dealership wanted me to trade in my Pontiac Torrent for a Terrain. Honestly I like the look of the Torrent better. To be honest, the Terrain looks like a brick with wheels. Maybe a few years from now GMC will take the hint and redesign the Terrain.

We like the brawney looks and the fact it is not just another boring cuv. What we do not like is lack of a height adjustment for the passenger seat and the absolute BS of 32 mpg. I get 23.8 on highway trips. Who rated this, Ed Whiticar? You know the CEO appointed by the gov who had to leave when he declared that GM fully repaid the bailout money. He neglected to mention they paid it back with TARP funds. GEEZZZE what an ass.

Wow this moron couldn't be any more wrong. He thinks the Terrain is ugly? I'll bet that he has most of the "defects" he claims the back has. I have owned one for 10 months now and still get complements daily.
As for the transmission problems the two of you speak of, I haven't had any problems at all, however it did just get a recall for a reprograming of the trans computer. So it's proably been fixed.

We own a Terrain and like it...BUT today had same experience as Chris(posted 3-4-2010)...wondering what happened with Chris or anyone else out there experiencing this transmission/gear issue. Thanks!

I love SUV cars. This one just looks tougher for a long trip out the city. And it is gentler than the others ;)

The new Terrain is like the GMC Acadia on steroids. It has a bold look that is unlike other bland SUV's on the road.
It's one thing to not like it, but to berate it like AL Foltz does in his article is tasteless.

    Looks good to me

This guy is totally wrong! Most crossover SUVs out there have no style, they are all plain. This Terrain has a great "truck" look with great gas mileage and a nice, quiet ride. It has plenty of room, and a ton of features. I just bought it and really like it. The dealerships can't even keep them in stock... so I would say this is the look of the future. Sorry buddy!

A.L. Foltz, you are a douche bag!

I absolutely love my Terrain, everywhere I go and park it, someone comes over and admires it. I drove it to Florida and it rode and drove beautifully, lots of leg room, so no cramped leg feeling either in front or back. Love Love Love it. And the gas mileage is wonderful.

I wonder if this author has even seen one in person. I think its quite obvious they have not.
We are purchasing a Terrain because it doesnt look like all other CUVs out there as well. Its not a boring or bland looking vehicle. Yes, the looks are polarizing but Id rather have that then a "me too" bland CUV.

Just a question to other GMC Terrain owners...Has anyone else encountered a problem with the computer in the engine that controls the gears. There was an incident where I was driving brand new Terrain with 153 miles and it lost power on the interstate. We coasted over to the side and tuned off the Terrain. We started it up and pulled into the bank where I was picking up the check for our down payment on the vehicle. When I was attempting to park in the stall the vehicle would not reverse. At that point we had it towed back to the dealership where it still is today. Has anyone else encountered this problem and had it "fixed"? I am trying to find out if there are any other problems to expect after this one. Thank you.

I'd be selling a Pontiac for it...a Grand Am that is. I like cars that have character and stand out. I've seen a lot of harsh criticism over this vehicle and htat's fine (there are people who find ferraris ugly), so it's not everyones cup of tea. The styling drew me in not only because it's polarizing, but because if you look at all the other CUv's, this is the only one that offers SUV-ish masculine styling without looking like a wagon on wheels. And no, this thing is nowhere near th pontiac asstek as I like to call it (and thousands more haha).

    @ the author:
to quote your last line: "Likely though, there are still thousands of style-blind shoppers out there who will flock to the Terrain in a me too attempt at capturing some of the brazen look of the Denali." I wouldn't consider myself style-blind, more like style-starved. All the CUV's out there are so curvy and feminine, this one to me is a fresh slate, a much needed breath of fresh air that says "CUV's can be had by men too". Sure a Hyundai Santa Fe may be cheaper but I wouldn't be caught dead in one of those nor a CR-V and deef not a RAV4. Its GMC in a nutshell; Ruggedness meets elegance, which is kind of what defines me as well (No i don't look like the birth child of an elephant and H3 either; 5 foot 8 in. and about 160lb.
These trucks look much better in real life too btw.

Your decision to own a Terrain says it better than I can! What did you trade in...your Pontiac Aztek?

beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I am sure that there are plenty of women out there that would say the same about you. I own a terrain and have received many compliments about it.

If I was dumb enough to buy a GMC Terrain, I'd have to install a toilet in my garage, because I would barf every time I saw this incredibly ugly vehicle sitting there!

  • A.L.Foltz Posted: 11/13/2009 9:38am PST

Yes! It is indeed unnecessarily oversized.
