    Please explain how the 4-cyl engine is both "coarse" and "smooth."

    @acaimonster, Coarse and boomy is how the engine sounds when pushed to higher revs (often the case with large-displacement fours), even though it's vibration-free from inside (not always the case, and a sign of good balancing or engine mounts). I'll edit that sentence for clarity.
