BMW has to do something. It's vehicles are no longer what could be considered affordable in the US and there is now room to add a vehicle that will sell between $20 to $25,000. Plus this could provide a way to deliver fuel efficient four cylinder turbodiesel engines to the US market. This is something that it refuses to do with either the 1 or 3 Series. That six cylinder that is available for the 3 Series is pricey and only fuel efficient when compared to a conventional six cylinder engine.

What's that flushing sound? Oh! It's BMW brand equity going down the toilet! Buy another defunct euro brand and rebuild it, you rocket scientists! It's not like the MINI enterprise didn't pave the way.
