US 129 also known as "The Tail Of The Dragon" South of Knoxville, Tennessee, is one of the most challenging but fun roads I know of. It is very popular with the sport bike and sports car enthusiasts.
There is a tree covered with parts salvaged from bike wrecks called the Tree of Shame. Worth a visit.

On Sunday 4th Oct 2009 my son was driving his Fiat Punto car in a line of traffic on A682 between Gisburn and Barrowford. When he was near to Rimington Lane the rear end of his car went out of control due to, the police say, a defective road surface (it had been repaired during the summer). Less than one hour later another car lost control under the same circumstances at the same location and also overturned - again, the police say, due to a defective road surface. If any person has knowledge of vehicles sliding, losing control, being involved in accidents etc (whether the police were involved or not) at this location in 2009 would you please send me brief details to neilrta@fsmail.net or telephone me on 07941371397, in confidence. We travel this road regularly and know there are numerous accidents each year. any assistance would be gratefully received. thank you.... Neil

"City to City Overhead Highway system"

These pictures really help illustrate the problem. Ben Missler of Oregon has designed a sensible Cable and Rail system, to run on CLEAN power generated along the route. it will haul both Passengers and Freight, and pay it's own operating costs. I've become a Proponent...and want to help rpove it can be built cheaper than roads, rail or bridges...and help reduce urban congestion.

"where is the highest motorable road?"

i think you should also include the Khardung La Pass in Kashmir, India which is the highest motorable road in India, if not Asia?
