"EPA city/highway fuel economy ratings of 15/21 mpg with the new SFE package, numbers that Ford calls "unsurpassed.""
    Ford must be DELUSIONAL.
    15/21 is Effing "unsurpassed"?????
15/21 is LOUSY and WON't CUT IT in today's markets.
Ford needs to get the SMALL or MEDIUM Sized DIESEL as STANDARD in these trucks, the Diesel is iDEAL for trucks and SUVs, a
and a good small diesel could EASILY top 30 MPG Highway.
50% better than the lousy 21!
Ford used to sell almost a MILLION (900,000+) of this F150 POS every year,
But, MARK MY WORDS, It should he happy if it sells HALF that number in the FUTURE.

What you were saying had me interested until you said "POS" describing the F-150. I've had three of them and that is not my opinion at all. And by the numbers sold, I'm not alone in that opinion.
Using that kind of language to describe a "decent" truck lowers you credibility to "zero".

$21,320 for the basic... Ford should be realistic. If these sell for $14-15K in the real world then why not just price them that way. That would draw more attention.

Clarification: I did NOT mean that the F-150 is a POS compared to its competition, the Silverado, the Ram, or even the TItan and the Tundra.
ALL these full size trucks, UNLESS they equip them with a 30 MPG DIESEL, ARE POS in today's $4-$5 gas environment, and there is no way to avoid this.
20 MPG cut it back when gas was $1 and $2,
BUT it does NOT cut it today, When people's wages have NOT doubled, BUT GAS HAS.

Diesels cost more and still pollute a lot more (unless even more expensive technologies are introduced). A basic gasser is what a lot of people need - just not for 21K.

  • Ed Posted: 9/21/2008 3:09pm PDT

JKD is woefully out of date.
Diesels USED to pollute more, now MODERN Disesels pollute far LESS than competitor gas engines, esp. larger ones as in this case, and far less fuel efficient ones.
AND they cost 'much more' to the CONSUMER because the Big 3 wanted to make more $ out of them. they would charge $4,000 for the diesel option, when the COST to them was at best another $500 ONLY!!!
These Days are GONE, however. The Big 3 should WISE UP or suffer the consequences.
AND "Most people" do NOT need a stupid pickup truck on a daily basis. This is RIDICULOUS. with $4 and $5 gas, MOST people have ALREADY voted with their wallets and sales of the StupidUglyVehicles and Pickups have already PLUMMETED and they are NOT going up again any time soon.
Ford better make the F150 REALLY fuel efficient, and sell it at the same $20k, IF it wants to sell even REMOTELY close to the 900,000 or 600,000 a year it used to.

Ed - don't believe the hype - while cleaner the best Mercedes diesel running on urine is still worse to the environment than Accord's engine for example. And it requires our ultra-clean and expensive diesel.
